Our frames are designed as a very durable support system for the cyclist’s vision needs with functionality not fashion as our primary goal. Though we think the sunglasses look great, the frame is designed to assist the cyclists vision needs no matter what type of riding they are doing.
Design Features
An important feature designed into the frame is the frames ability to provide airflow over the nose bridge that flows over the back of the lens. This airflow enhances the hydrophobic coating on the lens itself and helps with moisture control on the back of the lens including the prevention of fogging in very humid conditions. The airflow also acts as a self-cleaning feature so there really is no need to wipe the lens during your ride.
What you will experience
When riding you will feel a gentle airflow on both side of your nose. If you do sweat on the lens, you will see the large droplets slide down the lens at a high rate of speed. This is the hydrophobic coating on the lens itself at work. Most of those droplets will roll right off the lens but some of those sweat droplets may accumulate at the bottom of the lens. The airflow will eventually help push them off as well. The airflow will also either help evaporate the smaller droplets or eventually push them down the lens. This is the self-cleaning feature, but it requires patience. Avoid the temptation to wipe your lenses! Suddenly you will realize your lens are clear!
The frame was designed to provide maximum forward and peripheral vision without obstructing any aspect of the cyclist’s vision regardless of their position on the bicycle. We designed the frame to sit above the cyclist’s eyes and still wrap around the rider’s face to provide maximum protection. This feature maximizes the rider’s peripheral vision and prevents any obstruction that might interfere with the rider’s vision when they turn or lower their head. We made the nose piece adjustable so the rider can adjust the height of the sunglasses on their nose. This feature is very helpful if the rider is in the drops or on the skis on a tri-bike.
Our goal is to make you forget you have sunglasses on while riding. One requirement to accomplish this goal was to make sure the frame does not move on your face. We made the nose pad out of a hydrophilic material that gets sticky when wet to help prevent slipping. We made the nose piece out a soft material to encourage adhesion to slippery skin. We extended and curved the temple arms to improve leverage and prevent forward movement and chatter. We added a non-slip earpiece to temple arms to help prevent horizontal movement. All of these design elements help prevent any movement of the frame on your face
What you will experience.
We have tested the frame on the cobbles, on high-speed descents, and on rocky trails. The sunglasses do not move at all. We have not experienced any chatter, nose slippage or any movement at all, even in the drops and neither will you.
For example, on one test ride, one of the riders was so used to his previous sunglasses slipping he kept trying to push his Zoran’s back on his nose. Finally, another test rider who had noticed what he was doing looked at him and said “The sunglasses are not slipping. At this point all you are doing is poking yourself in the forehead and you are starting to look pretty foolish.” Enough said…
The frame was designed with long hours in the saddle in mind, so it was designed to be very comfortable and light. The frame is designed to bend under pressure and contour your face comfortably. The extended and curved temple arms mentioned above ensure a contoured no pressure fit, eliminating pressure points. The soft nose piece does not dig into your skin and is extremely comfortable. Even though certain of our lenses may be a little heavier due to prescriptions the frame is light enough to compensate. We have only had positive reports concerning our prescription sunglasses. Our sunglasses are so comfortable, we have had reports of racers forgetting they had our sunglasses on, only to knock them off their head when they removed their helmet!
The frames are made of a thermoplastic material called Grilamid TR 90. The frames are very flexible and strong. The TR90 material is known for its anti-fading and color retention properties. We did not make our hinge or any connections out of a plastic material. We used a three-barrel metal hinge imbedded in the frame to provide maximum strength and durability. This type of hinge also allows for some adjustment. For example, if the frame stretches to a larger or wider head continuously the screw adjustment may have to be tightened over time.

With a focus on visual acuity and safety, we only use the highest quality ophthalmic lenses available.
We use polycarbonate lens because they are 12 times stronger than plastic lenses, they are very light and have a high refractive index (import for prescriptions).
All our sunglasses are manufactured to individual order. The reason for this is we manufacture all our sunglasses to prescription eyeglass standards. We process your regular sunglass order exactly same way we process prescriptions. We start with an unaltered lens blank and shape the lens to order. In the case of regular sunglasses, we surface the lens to a zero power. With prescriptions, we surface the lens to the prescription order. All our sunglasses are then hand assembled and inspected.
The same high-quality standards and precision manufacturing processes apply to all our sunglasses because we make them all to ophthalmic prescription standards.
Our sunglasses are manufactured in an optical laboratory that also manufactures orders for ophthalmologists, optometrists and other eyecare professionals.
When you place your prescription order with Zoran it does not go to a 3rd party. As noted above, prescriptions are what we do. We just make your regular sunglasses to a zero prescription and the prescriptions to the eye care professional’s order!

How Zoran Lens Coatings Works
Our coatings are converted to a gaseous state and literally infused into the lens utilizing heat and pressure. Each coating has a very specific purpose and are applied in a very specific order to maximize effectiveness. We apply 14 different coatings to each lens. We call them coating “stacks.” We apply some coatings to both the front and back of the lens. Other coatings get applied to one side or the other depending upon the purpose of the coating.
We use this advanced lens coating technology to defeat all weather conditions–rain, sleet, heat, humidity, moisture, and sweat.
